On Longing by Susan Stewart Sentence #1 "The body is the primary mode of perceiving scale" Artist Statement This is a photo of myself at Disneyland this past January at the entrance to the Monsters Inc. attraction. I chose this photo for this quote because it shows how the Disney artists design to make everyone feel like a kid in their parks. Any time I see an object that makes me feel like a child again, I am immediately attracted to it and embrace the whimsy design that was created. A kiss can be a blessing, a wish, a hope, a cure, a prayer, a message, as well as a token of love. Through this collage, I wanted to portray several different meanings of kisses through the same, simple gesture. Hands are messengers of emotion.” - Diane Ackerman, A Natural History Of The Senses Hands portray emotions through touch or gestures such as an angry fist, a joyous clap, or a confident handshake. For this piece I wanted to show a range of emotions with several different ribbons of color coming out of my personal handprint. The colors represent emotions such as joy, sadness, anger, envy, and fear.
